The ACLU of Mississippi filed an amicus brief in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to support upholding a decision that prevents Mississippi from implementing HB 1126.  The law mandates age and identity verification for digital services, but advocates argue it will undermine privacy and stifle the free exchange of ideas.

Mississippi House Bill 1126 is an extraordinary censorship law that violates all internet users' First Amendment rights to speak and to access protected speech on social media platforms.

The ACLU of Mississippi remains devoted to protecting the civil rights and civil liberties of all Americans, including the rights to free speech, anonymity, and access to information online.
