The community is invited to “Uniting the Torch and the Flame: Recognizing Mississippi Civil Rights Veterans,” a welcome program to be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. The event will take place inside the Museum Auditorium, and will serve as a kick-off to the annual Veterans of the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement conference. Be exposed to those Civil Rights Veterans who struggled to secure the rights we freely enjoy today. The program is also an opportunity to bridge the gap
between local youth and Veterans by creating an intergenerational space to pay homage to them and lead the way for the next generation.
“Uniting the Torch” will feature the Jim Hill High School Choir, Poetess Amanda Furdge, a performance from Black Girls Unfiltered, a special keynote from Mississippi NAACP Youth &
College President Marquise Hunt and youth activist Maisie Brown, and Mt. Helm M.B. Church Pastor CJ Rhodes. It is free and open to the public, and is in partnership with the Veterans of the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement and the ACLU of Mississippi.
