The Mississippi House and Senate Minority Caucuses will hold a joint hearing on Tuesday, October 15 at 1:00 p.m. CDT, in Room 113 of the state capitol to recommend policy changes to Mississippi’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program and ways the state can expand assistance to those in need.
Advocates at the hearing will address the challenges faced by families who continue to suffer based on their economic status due to current TANF requirements and misappropriated funding. Impacted people and policy makers will participate in the hearing to shed further light on the needs of Mississippians living in poverty.
House Minority Leader Robert Johnson and Senate Minority Leader Derrick Simmons will preside.
Mississippi ranks as the poorest state in the nation and has also been designated with the highest child poverty rate in the country.
